Ireland is one of the most important producers of animation in the world and to celebrate this An Post has issued four new stamps in association with Animation Ireland.

Animation Ireland is an umbrella brand under which the leading animation companies in Ireland work together to market Ireland’s world class animation sector internationally. Every week, over 20 million people around the world enjoy watching animated programmes produced here. Ireland is a recognised leader in the industry with talented and technically sophisticated 2D and 3D studios creating and producing content for TV, film, games, mobile content and apps.

The animation industry has enjoyed significant growth over the past five years in Ireland and has emerged as a central component of Ireland’s digital and creative economy and the award-winning studios here employ over 1,000 technical and creative staff.

Many of the indigenous studios here have been nominated for BAFTAS, Emmys and Oscars with a number of winners in recent years, including the four featured in this new issue of stamps.

The CBBC series Roy, produced by Jam Media, won the Royal Television Award and was nominated for two BAFTA® awards for best Drama and best Writer. The 2002 short from Brown Bag Films Give Up Yer Aul Sins was nominated for an Academy Award as was the 2009 feature The Secret of Kells by Cartoon Saloon which won many awards in major festivals worldwide. Last year, in 2013, Geronimo Productions’ Nelly & Nora was selected for International Competition at MIPCOM in Cannes.

The four new stamps were designed by Vermillion Design and they feature these four successful examples of excellence in recent Irish animation. They are available to buy now via
