#IrishAnimation: Second to None completes post and heads for the Fleadh

Post production has ended on Vincent Gallagher’s Second To None. The film follows Vincent’s IFTA nominated short film Love is a Sting, which is currently long listed for the 89th Academy Awards®.

Second To None tells the story of Frederick Butterfield, a failed inventor who has always played second fiddle to his mere one minute older twin brother Herman. When Herman becomes the world’s oldest man, Frederick finally sees his opportunity to be first place. He’ll just have to kill his brother to do it.

Principal photography took place over a period of six months in Bowsie Workshop and marks Vincent’s first steps into stop motion animation. The film is animated by Jason Watts (Igam Ogam) with stunning production design and character fabrication coming from Aoife Noonan (A Terrible Hullabaloo) and Pierre Butler respectively.

Written and directed by Vincent Gallagher and produced by Damian Farrell as part of the Irish Film Board/RTÉ Frameworks scheme, Second To None is described as an extremely ambitious film using traditional animation techniques coupled with live action aesthetics and sensibilities.

Post production took place in Mediafy and Outer Limits, while post sound was done in Mutiny, along with an original score from St. Francis Hotel.

Second To None will have its world premiere at the 28th Galway Film Fleadh in the New Irish Shorts 8: Animation program on at 12 noon on Sunday 10th July.
